There was some fantastic music coming out of Liverpool last year, led by Michael Head, Professor Yaffle, Nick Ellis and many others.
It was indeed a fine year for the pool of life.
The next offering from that part of the world comes from Candy Opera and their debut album 45 Revolutions Per Minute that comes out on 23 February on Firestation Records.
It’s taken a while. Something like thirty-five years in fact but thanks to the good Berlin folk at Firestation the beautiful melodies that invoke Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout. The Pale Fountains and that lovely 80s period when tunes mattered, guitars jangled and bittersweet lyrics mattered can now be relived in glorious colour on an 18-track CD and limited edition 16-track vinyl issue.
