Penguin Cafe Orchestra were one of those bands that you ignored back then. Well they weren’t Bowie or the Pistols or whoever. Quirky album covers caught your attention but they were never on your radar. Then, then… Some years ago when you started to opening your ears you sort of chanced upon them and thought – how the fuck have we missed these lot.
Well that’s my story.
The founder Simon Jeffes of PCO passed away back in 1997 but his son Arthur has taken up the reigns in recent years performing (with the help of new musicians) old pieces and introducing a few of his own. Now sans the Orchestra and simply known as Penguin Cafe they have produced works that stand up to the original material music and their latest album The Imperfect Sea is quite simply superb. The sound of the summer 2017.
