Twitter is all things to man. Or something like that. One of the best things about it is that you stumble upon things and yesterday I did just that. Basically somebody was raving about a project called Island Songs by Ólafur Arnalds.
No me neither.
But a quick google and 30 minutes later I’m blown away. It turns out that Ólafur Arnalds is a BAFTA-winning multi-instrumentalist and producer from Mosfellsbær, Iceland and basically Island Songs is an audio- visual portrait of Arnalds’ home country. At its heart this project explores the people, places and music that that are unique to this island and influence Ólafur as an artist. Over the course of seven weeks, he travels to seven very different locations in Iceland – one per week – to record a series of new compositions. In each location Arnalds will be collaborating with artists local to the town to create and perform a new song.
It is quite simply 28 minutes of the most beautiful music you will ever hear.
