I have just caught up with the two-part Absolutely Fashion documentary about Vogue magazine that screened on BBC2. If you’ve an interest in fashion, magazine, journalism all with a spoonful of sugary reality TV then give it a whirl. It’s nothing jaw-dropping but I enjoyed it. Just a gentle stroll through a year or so at Vogue House. Everybody – even the editor Alexandra Shulman come across as ‘alright’. It’s no Devil Meets Prada which I guess the producers were hoping for.
Of all the characters in the documentary the only one that appears to be a ‘character’ is the fashion director, Lucinda Chambers. The best-dressed of all the staff and the one with a glint in her eye; especially when recalling the good old bad old days when they’d go straight to the pub after work before heading to a party and then into work with a monster of a hangover.
I doubt if the programme will win any awards but as an insight into a world that most of us will never visit it’s well worth a watch.
