It was the first of a few beers and the first of a few beers in London Skolars Rugby League Club’s new clubhouse. And what a fine building it is. Very, very impressed. It wash’t quite finished on Saturday – in that it needs a few souvenirs, shirts etc putting up but it is already a splendid space. All neat and tidy, plenty of space, views of the pitch and a balcony outside – where I enjoyed the decent weather even more pints while still watched the second half!
It is a great achievement by the club and the bar will soon begin to feel like home for the Skolars’ faithful. It will get it’s own identity, age gracefully and it will become the place to meet up, meet away fans, talk about rugby, do business and generally talk bollocks. That’s what rugby clubhouses are. They are the life and soul of a club and the opening of this facility cannot be underestimated in the continued expansion of the club in Wood Green.
I’m now looking forward to the Top Eight play-offs – whenever they start and however they work – and expect to have a few more beers in there before now and the end of the season.
If you like your rugby (any code) then pop down to Skolars. A really friendly place where by just paying your admission, buying a programme, a few pints and a raffle ticket you can help the club move on to the next stage in their development.
