Forget the holly it’s all about the Ivy

The image originally appeared in Esquire magazine in 1962 and was featured in John Gall and Graham Marsh’s book The Ivy Look; one of – if not the best book on clothes ever written.
If you haven’t got a copy get one as it’s a real joy.
Anyhow the original image is accompanied by the text, “In general these are the clothes that a well-dressed college man would have.”
Which is all fair enough but I’d say, “These are the clothes that a well-dressed man would/should have.”
Those clothes are as relevant today as they were fifty-one years ago.
I’d love that wardrobe; especially the sheepskin.
Now where’s that young Ali MacGraw?
